The dual 405s only have an effective ~97 dB sens., so the FT96H is a better choice overall IMO due to its lower eff. and flatter off-axis response.
Which horn are you planning to use?

hi GM,
thanks for the reply. for my 290-8L i'm thinking of using either a 1005, 805, 1003, or 803. i like the way the big horns look, but i have never heard any of them.
if i'm going to use a dual 416 for the low and a 290-8L for the mids which XO point is better 300hz or 500hz?
i still have not decided what to use for the highs. maybe fostex tweeters or 902's.
thanks again

Hi there,
was wondering why you have decided to go with this woofer as opposed to a GPA 416 or 515?
from what I've seen on the board, GPA build
quality is beter than things used to be built in the USA, and seems like they get very high praise from the people buying. just asking.
looks like its going to be an outstanding speaker build no matter which you choose.

You're welcome!
Yeah, those multi-cells are awesome to look at, but for performance I'd rather have a MR94B with a bullet horn tweeter suspended in its mouth. Better yet, a huge DIY waveguide (WG). Regardless, since XO point/slopes are so room, personal preference dependent, using a 300 Hz horn allows the most range of adjustment.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">One of these days I need to do something with my MR94B's. I've never used them. I've got a couple of McCauley 15" woofers I could pair with them.
